There’s no doubt about it, winter is here – the mornings are cold and glittering with frost, the evenings are long and dark, and it’s time to make the house as warm and festive as can be. There’s nothing better on a cold and gloomy day than coming back to a cosy home, and at Homefront, we’ve got everything you need this Christmas to turn your house into a haven.
A little candlelight is the quickest way to make your home feel cosier, so to start with, we have a beautiful selection of votives and candles. Grand Illusions’ sparkling metallic candle-holders are perfect for tea lights, creating a soft golden glow. Or how about these stunning hanging lanterns from Nkuku, made with glass in a polished brass framework? Again, there’s space inside to hold a tea light, so simply hang in a window or alcove for instant elegance. For another quick and easy festive touch, we have some gorgeous artificial winter foliage in stock, including silver twigs with miniature pinecones and green leaves with red berries – arrange a few sprigs in one of our lovely vases for a lasting Christmas centrepiece.
If you’re looking for something a little more light-hearted, we love these miniature jute reindeer from Dassie Artisan – they’re exquisitely handcrafted so no two are exactly the same, and make a fabulous addition to mantelpieces or end tables. And for a more dramatic statement, we love Grand Illusion’s wall-mounted stag’s heads, made with twisting hazel branches for a wonderful sense of movement and character.
To give your Christmas tree a little extra sparkle, we have a whole range of beautiful baubles to choose from – we particularly love Nkuku’s shimmering baubles made with recycled glass. By the twinkle of fairy lights, the hammered glass has a pearlescent quality that looks completely magical. We also love Grand Illusions’ unique Christmas decorations in the shape of jewelled insects, sure to fascinate the children – but for our full range of baubles, do come in and visit us.
One last thing – don’t forget that it’ll soon be time to send out your Christmas cards, and if you’re looking for something a little different, we’ve got a variety of exquisite designs from local artists. Jessica Baldry’s stunningly intricate papercuts are always popular, and we also love the warmth and humour of Laura Robertson’s prints, featuring animals enjoying the festive season, from bears in Christmas jumpers to ice-skating pheasants!
If you’re looking for a peaceful spot to do a little Christmas shopping away from the hustle and bustle of town, our home on Margaret’s Buildings is the perfect place – visit us and plenty more gorgeous independent shops, and don’t forget to pop in to our neighbours at the Green Bird Café for some well-deserved tea and cake, too…
